What do you call this type of curtain?
the type that something is joined to the curtain and you can pull it up and down vertically out of (like that on stage, but smaller home) ..? and what type of curtain rod languishes requiring no holes in the wall with screws and nails?
I think you're describing a Roman shade. As nailess rod / curtain without screws, I can not say I've seen one.
Did they have red curtains in the area of Shakespeare?
I'm doing a group power point about Shakespeare and I have a good education. I was thinking in stage curtains, but I'm not sure they had those. Also, if you have any information on his plays, that would help me in my part of the project.

A cure for smallpox patient was wrapped in red cloth. Red cloth was also hanging in the windows - light filtered through and was beneficial. I read somewhere long ago that did not work.
