Virtual vs. MIDI instruments latency problem?
I am trying to compose music, but I found a problem: When I try to compose in time real using a Virtual Instrument (East West Symphonic Orchestra, Reason Pianos, Fruity Loops) there is a considerable delay from the time I play the note on the keyboard and when I hear the instrument, however, the notes are recorded at the time when I play, not when I hear them originally. When using standard MIDI instruments I hear the instrument immediately. What should I do to fix this? I'm using: Yamaha PSR-275 keyboard Roland Edirol UM-1EX Usb Midi adapter
You have a latency problem. In FL Studio, go to options then audio settings. Whether you're using DirectSound or ASIO, there should be a box that says "buffer size". This is the amount of time between what they say they do and when it does. The greater the delay, the better the quality. Of course, if you are working with MIDI only (no live audio), then you should have as little delay as possible. Mine is 10 ms. If you're using DirectSound, the bar to change the buffer is there. If you're using ASIO, click the button that says "Show ASIO panel. If you have ASIO and not use it ... USE IT! Click the entry-exit window and choose an ASIO driver (except ASIO4ALL).
