What are the best theatrical gels to create these effects: night, candlelight?
I'm doing an amateur production outdoors and we have four halogen lamps work with them. I need to soften the light considerably as they do not seem ... well ... halogen lamps. I would like create the effect of moonlight and candlelight, but since I am familiar with lighting design does not know what I use color gels. If you know, please let me four colors to know what to wear on each of the two regimes. Thanks! Oh, and we are using only footlights. It makes things a little more difficult!
That's going to be hard with limited resources. Also, do not know the color of the stage, scenery, costumes, skin tone plaster, etc, is not exact answer. Also to moonlight is asking direct moonligt or a night scene in general? I would go with a deep blue Roscoe 79 or 80 with a peak of something pale (R61). bleieve to be British (or color of my idea of there) so colors Roscoe may be more difficult than that of Lee, there are websites that will help translate these options on to another color. The light of the candle should be easier, especially with footlights. First have a candle on stage, I do not know what the boss fire (or whatever brit equiv is) is like in your area, but if the real name is not appropriate then there are some decent fake candles that seem quite real. You can often buy at a local retailer of novelty or if you need High Quality makes a candle flickering Roscoe wonderful, very realistic. Then youwill only need to reinforce what the public will alreday see (all at some level to know what a candle lit room looks like. I would look to the warm amber, but not in the red, R18 could be good. As for his third lamp, I have no idea what would be best, again I want to know a lot more detail before they can give a definitive answer. But something neutral that has a color temperature that actually runs the Gamito (R51 surprise L003 Pink is always a favorite, but is close to pan a bit). Good luck, and do not hesitate contact me if you have any further questions.
