decision on studio Condenser Microphone? ?

i am building my own home Recording Studio but at the moment i cant decide between these three rode microphones,i want a good professional sound, but i dont wana be fooled by price !!!!!

the three microphones are

1. RODE NT1A @ £116

2. RODE NT2A @ £215

3. RODE NTK @ £319

which one would you recommend, and why one is better than the other its for Hip Hop recordings thank in advance

There are better mics out there. I always use a soundelux U99. If you're stuck on the Rode, I would rule out the NT1A. While all three bump around 10K, the NT1a has a sharper spike than the others which will have a strong effect on what you're recording (may not be a good thing). While it could add to a vocal, it's very possible you would have to eq (or de-ess) it out with certain types of vocals (especially females). I try to get mics that are as close to transparent as possible, that way the only effects that are added are what I put on it.

The NT2a and NTK are decent. I've heard better things about the NTK. It has a better frequency response, signal/noise ratio, sensitivity, and output voltage (of course thats typical since it has its own Power Supply as opposed to the NT2a being phantom powered).

The plus with the NT2a is the extra controls (multipattern, roll off, and pad). However, in over 10 years of cutting vocals, I think I've only used the pad function once and NEVER the roll off or multipattern. I may filter the vocal later, but I always apply it where I can undo it. If you filter it on the mic and decide you don't like it, you will never be able to add it back (at least not where it sounds natural).

If it was me and I was stuck on Rode, I would grab the NTK. Another consideration is your preamp and compressor (if you use one). One bad piece on the input chain will kill every bit of quality you gain from the others. Important to remember: good mic + bad preamp + good compressor = bad vocal. Good luck.

looking for a Studio Microphone for rapping?

i'm looking for a condenser microphone, that is ideal for rapping. i was gonna get an mxl 992 but i'm not sure if it's what i need.
i'm looking to spend about $80
can somebody send me a link to one, and i'd prefer a url from musiciansfriend.com

idk how much you know about mics, but that one you're looking at requires Phantom Power (as stated in the specs), so you'd need a Mixing Board that suppies phantom power (im kind of a noob myself so i dont know how many boards have this but my guess is most of the mid-high range ones)

i know people who sing/rap with a $20 pc mic, so the one you're looking at should be fine i guess? maybe ask a couple local rappers /producers what they use
